You Can’t Do the Same Thing and Expect a Different Result

by Jojo | Jan 1, 2026 | Faith in God, Wisdom for Living

“As a dog returns to its vomit, so a fool repeats his foolishness.” — Proverbs 26:11

How long will we continue to repeat the same patterns and still expect different outcomes? How many times will we ignore God’s wisdom and lean on our own understanding—only to find ourselves stuck in the same cycles?

Scripture reminds us that God is all-knowing, and yet, time and time again, we choose our own way. The result is often frustration, delay, and unnecessary pain.

Leaning on God’s Wisdom, Not Our Own

Imagine life as a maze. The One who designed the maze—Christ Jesus—holds the map that leads from the beginning to the end. He knows every turn, every dead end, and every safe path.

Now imagine a person standing at the entrance of that maze, confidently declaring they don’t need the map. They didn’t design the maze, they don’t understand its structure, yet they insist on navigating it alone.

That, plainly put, is unrefined foolishness.

Why Do We Trust Everyone—Except God?

When our internet stops working, we call the service provider.
When a pipe bursts, we call the plumber.

We instinctively seek help from those who have expertise in what they created or manage. So why is it that when life breaks down—when our hearts, relationships, or purpose are in crisis—we hesitate to turn to God?

Why do we sometimes give more credit to the plumber than to the God who created both the plumber and the plumbing?

Some might say, “Well, maybe we’re afraid of the cost.”
But the truth is, the problems that bring our lives to a grinding halt are rarely things money can fix.

Money cannot heal regret.
Money cannot erase emotional pain.
Money cannot restore broken relationships, defeat hopelessness, or mend a wounded soul.

The True Cost: Obedience vs. Disobedience

The cost of obedience to Christ is nothing—because the price has already been paid.
The cost of disobedience, however, is steep—and we pay it daily through loss, pain, delay, and unnecessary suffering.

Christ paid the ultimate price so that we could walk freely in wisdom, truth, and victory. Yet somehow, the enemy convinces us to trade what is freely given for what is painfully costly.

Why exchange peace for confusion?
Why trade wisdom for repetition?
Why expect a different result while refusing to change direction?

A Call to Choose Wisdom

If we truly want different results, we must choose a different way. That way is obedience. That way is humility. That way is trusting the One who holds the map.

God is not withholding wisdom from us—He is waiting for us to ask, trust, and obey.

“Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding.” — Proverbs 3:5

Prayer

Heavenly Father,
Thank You for Your wisdom, which is perfect and unchanging. Forgive me for the times I have relied on my own understanding and repeated the same patterns while expecting different results. Teach me to trust You fully, to obey Your Word, and to follow the path You have already prepared for me. Give me the humility to seek Your guidance and the courage to walk in obedience, even when it challenges my comfort. I choose today to lean on You and not on myself. In Jesus’ name, Amen.

Closing Reflection:
Take a moment today to ask yourself where God may be calling you to change direction. When you choose His wisdom over your own, you open the door to new results, renewed peace, and a deeper walk with Him.

If this blog encouraged your heart, share it with another woman who may need a reminder to trust God fully. Together, let’s grow stronger in faith, rooted in His Word and anchored in His promises.
