Seeking Closure is Not Biblical- Finding True Healing in God

When your heart is broken, the future can feel uncertain- heavy with loss, confusion, and disappointment. In moments like this, many people feel tempted to return to the very source of their heartbreak. They hope that one more conversation, explanation, or apology might bring peace. The world calls this closure. But as believers, we must ask: Is seeking closure truly Biblical?

What the World Calls Closure

Closure is often defined as a sense of resolution after a painful or traumatic experience. It suggests that if we can just get answers from the person who hurt us, we can finally move on.

Here’s an important question: if the person you’re seeking closure from really had the power to heal your pain, wouldn’t they also have had the power to prevent it? And if they chose not to protect your heart, then why go back to them now for healing?

A Biblical Example: The Israelites and Pharaoh

The story of the Exodus in Exodus 12–14 gives us a powerful picture. God delivered His people from slavery in Egypt and led them toward the Promised Land. Yet the Israelites often looked back with longing at what they had left behind.

Their desire to return, even to the things and people that had once enslaved them, only delayed their journey and robbed them of blessings. God never told the Israelites to go back to Pharaoh for closure.

Instead, He provided for their every need- guidance, protection, provision, and healing- without requiring them to revisit the source of their pain.

True Healing Comes From God, Not People

The truth is this: closure is not something another person can give you. Real healing and resolution come only from God. He doesn’t send you back to what broke you. He calls you forward into His promises.

When we stop looking backwards for closure and instead trust God with our wounds, He does what no apology, explanation, or conversation could ever do: He makes us whole.

Moving Forward in Faith

So, if you find yourself longing for closure, remember this: your peace and healing do not come from revisiting the past. They come from trusting the One who holds your future.

“Forget the former things; do not dwell on the past. See, I am doing a new thing!” — Isaiah 43:18-19

God is not calling you back. He is calling you forward.
